Paxahau making “Detroit” News
Paxahau packs the house - 08/30/06 - The Detroit News Online
W hat started as a project in Jason Huvaere’s basement has become a globally recognized force in the electronic music community. Now if only someone could learn how to properly pronounce its name.
Paxahau Promotions Group president Huvaere — no stranger to mispronunciations himself, given his tricky, vowel-heavy last name (which, for the record, is pronounced WHO-varr) — says he’s heard all manner of goofy pronunciations of his company’s name over the years.
“The funniest one I get is ‘Packs the house,’” says Huvaere, 32. “People hear the name in conversation as opposed to seeing it in print, and that’s what they think it is.”
In a sense, that’s what Paxahau — pronounced PACKS-uh-how — does: packs the house. The Ferndale-based company produces around 20 electronic music events a year in Detroit, each drawing hundreds of hipsters and electronic music fans in a crowd of sweaty, gyrating bodies.
In May, Paxahau pulled off its biggest event yet, producing the seventh annual Memorial Day techno festival in Hart Plaza.
